The Harmony Shuffles

The Harmony Shuffle requires quite a bit more left-hand dexterity and coordination to accomplish over ordinary shuffles, but once you master them they become a great tool. I have long been a fan of these types of positions, and you will find them to be quite invaluable in many applications as well.

In this lesson I will teach the harmony shuffles in the open E, A , D, and G positions, and also show how they can be utilized in closed positions as well. One of the most important aspects of the left-hand technique is the ability to keep one of the fingers “on the track” as the lick moves up and down the neck.

Also incorporated into this technique are the open position hammer-ons that give it so much more character. You’ll find the harmony shuffies to be a really fun lick to practice and use, and it’s one that’ll stay with you always!—Arlen Roth
